Inquiry sample

WALT:  gather information

Every Wednesday we have been learning about the inquiry process while finding out about different cultural dress from around the world. The first stage of an inquiry is to gather information ‘Get It’. First we chose a culture we wanted to find out more about and then started researching.

Matrix showing what you think and what your inquiry teacher thinks.

I think:

1. What are you most proud of? That I used different websites and that I used lots of different sources

2. What did you find challenging? Trying to find different sources that weren't fake

3.  My next ‘Get It’ goal is? Ask questions about the answers in the sorcres

Reading sample

My reading goal this term was to…Make connections/look for patterns

TASK inquiring readers go through a process to gather, organise and respond to new information. We have been using  the ‘GET IT, SORT IT, USE IT’ process for our own reading inquiry.

My inquiry question was…what is beef sheep and dairy farming

GET IT...use a range of sources by questioning and predicting

SORT IT...analyse and sort information to answer my question: see if my thinking has changed, look for patterns by questioning inferring, summarising

USE IT…discuss what I have found out with others and make connections

I can research using a range of sources

I can keep asking questions as a research

I can sort information and see patterns

I can show changes in my thinking

I can co-operate with others to discuss ideas

I can share my learning with others

I can manage my own learning and behaviour to work independent

How did my thinking change during my inquiry? What patterns did I notice?

How did my thinking change during my inquiry? What patterns did I notice? I noticed that my thinking changed during my inquiry by not knowing anything about cows and knowing a lot

Writing sample

WALT:  Entertain

Description: We read the poem “My Remarkable Journey” which inspired us to write our own remarkable journeys about why our homework wasn’t at school today.

I was at school the bell was just about to go our teacher mrs lamo well her real name is mrs brown. But she said its time for us to grab our homework and go. we always get to go 5 minutes early so I can go do something cool like rock climbing our something like that. I grab my homework and then I fall over at the parking and land in a push up position. I get back up and looked for my homework then I saw it and grabbed it I walked to the car and jumped in. We got home and there was a giant he was as blind as a guy with no eyes. He said "I can't see anything I am blind but I can hear really good" you could see it in his eyes are really red. SUDDENLY!!! BOOM the giant shot a gun and my mum died. I ran as fast as I could but I fell in a hole and it led to school.

We decided that a quality piece of writing has the following things. Reflect on whether these things are in your story:
Introduction: It hooks the reader in the first few lines making them want to read more
Punctuation: Is your writing ready for a reader? Does your punctuation make it easy for them to read?

Short sentences: Do you create suspense by using these in your writing?

Onomatopoeia: Are these in your writing to create impact?

Alliteration: Are these in your writing to create impact?

Similes/Metaphors: Are these in your writing to create impact?

1. What do you think is the best part of your story? The bit when the giant shots the gun randomly.

2. What was the hardest part about completing this portfolio sample?  The writing because I looked at my book and then over and over again.

3.  Next time, what is a goal you can work towards? Have more good ending

Feedback/Feedforward: cooper you did well I think you could make some more similes. #Maraki

Te reo

This is our te reo poster

Description: We have been participating in 3 different workshops around colour, compositions and fonts.  We put these skills to use in a poster sharing our knowledge about Te Reo Maori.

Task: Make a poster about Te Reo Maori.

Message: My message is clear and purposeful.  Everything that is on my poster relates to my message.

Composition:  My poster is balanced.

Font:  My font is clear, readable and suits the message.

Colour:  I have used 2-3 colours that are complementary.  My background choice makes the text pop!

Accuracy:  All of the words on my poster are spelt correctly.

What are you most proud of and why? The colour because it is not bad

What challenged you the most and why? The layout because we couldn't find one like that

Next time, what is a goal you can work towards? The font because it's a bit to big

Feedback/Feedforward: I think you could work on the colour you used a bit to much # Lachlan

Sraight away I caught a fish and it was huge I threw it back. "Why did you do that ?" dad said. Then a huge wave got us and the boat flipped. I was bobbing up and down and then I saw the can with the flares in it. I dived under the water and got it and  got the beacon out and I shot the fire rocket and the plane came over and then the orange smoke and the goes back. Then a speed boat comes with the engine going vrooooooom then he picked me up then dad was screaming heeeelp and we picked him up and we got back to shoore. " what a day" I said.
