Every Wednesday we have been learning about the inquiry process while finding out about different cultural dress from around the world. The first stage of an inquiry is to gather information ‘Get It’. First we chose a culture we wanted to find out more about and then started researching.

TASK inquiring readers go through a process to gather, organise and respond to new information. We have been using  the ‘GET IT, SORT IT, USE IT’ process for our own reading inquiry.

Coutionary tail

A coutionary tail is a story that if you do something that your not suppose to do you get a punishment and I got the idea from a book that we reed and it was once apon a slime.  




don't go hunting without a adult or you will maybe shoot yourself or your friend or you or your friend will die. like me and my friend we went hunting on Saturday and we were at my dads friends house and I might of pointed a gun at hunter my friend. you can't point a gun at people even if you don't have it loaded. then if you do. when you get home your parents will barrie you alive or put you in a very deep hole with 2 very angry goats.

moral of the story don't go hunting without an adult

Reflect on a time when you have been in the pit? In maths because I did a really hard sum and I tried it and it toke a lot of times.

WALT:  Entertain

Description: We read the poem “My Remarkable Journey” which inspired us to write our own remarkable journeys about why our homework wasn’t at school today. 

I was at school the bell was just about to go our teacher mrs lamo well her real name is mrs brown. But she said its time for us to grab our homework and go. we always get to go 5 minutes early so I can go do something cool like rock climbing our something like that. I grab my homework and then I fall over at the parking and land in a push up position. I get back up and looked for my homework then I saw it and grabbed it I walked to the car and jumped in. We got home and there was a giant he was as blind as a guy with no eyes. He said "I can't see anything I am blind but I can hear really good" you could see it in his eyes are really red. SUDDENLY!!! BOOM the giant shot a gun and my mum died. I ran as fast as I could but I fell in a hole and it led to school.

Criteria:
We decided that a quality piece of writing has the following things. Reflect on whether these things are in your story:
Introduction: It hooks the reader in the first few lines making them want to read more 
Punctuation: Is your writing ready for a reader? Does your punctuation make it easy for them to read?

Short sentences: Do you create suspense by using these in your writing?


Onomatopoeia: Are these in your writing to create impact?


Alliteration: Are these in your writing to create impact?

Similes/Metaphors: Are these in your writing to create impact?


Evaluation:
1. What do you think is the best part of your story? The bit when the giant shots the gun randomly.

2. What was the hardest part about completing this portfolio sample?  The writing because I looked at my book and then over and over again.

Te reo

This is our te reo poster 



Description: We have been participating in 3 different workshops around colour, compositions and fonts.  We put these skills to use in a poster sharing our knowledge about Te Reo Maori.
Why? We have noticed that our posters are too cluttered and do not communicate a  message well.

Task: Make a poster about Te Reo Maori.


Criteria:
Message: My message is clear and purposeful.  Everything that is on my poster relates to my message. 



Composition:  My poster is balanced. 


Font:  My font is clear, readable and suits the message.

Colour:  I have used 2-3 colours that are complementary.  My background choice makes the text pop!

Accuracy:  All of the words on my poster are spelt correctly.

Evaluation:
What are you most proud of and why? The colour because it is not bad

What challenged you the most and why? The layout because we couldn't find one like that

Next time, what is a goal you can work towards? The font because it's a bit to big

Hiwi the kiwi writing

WALT: persuade 

Task: to write a persuasive piece of writing about fishing for the future 


My dad and I were down to the beach with our fishing rods. It was 4:30 I the morning because that's when the fish are snapping. We got into the boat and stuck the fish ruler on the side. I put my life jacket on. " dad put that life jacket on" I said. "Fine" Dad said. Then we're off. We stopped and casted our fishing lines out. Sraight away I caught a fish and it was huge I threw it back. "Why did you do that ?" dad said. Then a huge wave got us and the boat flipped. I was bobbing up and down and then I saw the can with the flares in it. I dived under the water and got it and  got the beacon out and I shot the fire rocket and the plane came over and then the orange smoke and the goes back. Then a speed boat comes with the engine going vrooooooom then he picked me up then dad was screaming heeeelp and we picked him up and we got back to shoore. " what a day" I said.

Evaluation: I think I could work on having more action

Cooper I think you did a good job but you could describe it a little more. So out of 10 I give you a 8/10.

Specific: Don’t be vague. What exactly do you want?
Measurable: Quantify your goal. How will you know if you’ve achieved it or not?

My end of term reflection

WALT: evaluate our learning honestly

What is an effective learner? Someone who gets on with there learning and don't sit next to blockers.


What were the highlights for this term? Why? Grasshopper tennis because I learnt more skills and I'm getting better at tennis.

What were your greatest challenges this term? Why? Cross country because I made it the hole way but at the end I got really tiered.


How are you going towards acting with integrity? Why?  How could you improve? Good because I sometimes pik up pens when nobody tells me to. but I need to get better at it because I am a directed learner.


What are your goals in our learner disposition wall?  Where to next? Trying to get better at not being more the teachers telling me what to do and me doing it myself to go to guided.

Grasshopper tennis

Description: We have been participating in a tennis programme with Big John (John Salisbury) from Tennis Manawatu. He has taught us some tennis skills that help with controlling and hitting the ball

How does a newtons craddle work? Well if you pull one 
Of the balls up on the end up and you don't 
Let go its called potential or stored energy.
If you let go of the ball it transfers kinetic 
Energy through the other balls and goes
To the ball on the opposite side.


If you pull two of the ambles up another 
Two marbles on the other side will go up.
But if you do tree marbles at a time there are two marbles at the bottom
Then the and marble goes on the other end.

Self evaluation: I think I did well at doing my draft and editing my writing after I did the writing.

Integrity


WALT: communicate a message with others.

DESCRIPTION: We have been learning about integrity.  We want to share our understanding with others.

What? Make a Puppet Pal to show our understanding of integrity I think I did well at showing integrity because I WAS telling people and helping people out
Why? To show what we know about integrity, to share during our Student Led Conference we did the integritey post on puppet pals 
When? Term 2, Week 1 - 7

EVALUATION: I contributed with the other people on my group.

WALT: communicate a message with others.
Create a story board showing the beginning, middle and end of our message I think my group did well doing the beginning middle and the end because first the owl asks the kangaroo look after my phone then the kangaroo drops the phone then the ninja finds the phone and gives it to the teacher  
Use Puppet Pals as a tool to share our message I think my group did good because we did a good puppet pal and I think we did well
Keep our audience engaged I think I we didn't do as well as we could do because our mane message wasn't integrity.

Everyone in our group has contributed evenly good because we all did our own models
Integrity is the main theme of our message in the middle because we  kinda did kotahitanga.

Self Evaluation: I think we did well by having it on YouTube and Sam hade a clear voice and I did well

This is a mnemonic a mnemonic is when you have a word and you have all of the letters and the you turn the letters into a word here's an example.

Discription: 
We did a challenge with Nics writing group we did a challenge where you had to do 5 or more mnemonics. I did 6 mnemonics because I wanted to challenge myself. I like doing this beause I like thinking hard.

Evaluation: I think I did good but I need to do harder words next time.

This is my snapper that I made on educreation with my friend Zac.


Description:
In Troys work shop 11 we learnt how to find out unknown facts from known facts. we hade to make a snapper for our blog about this strategy. Me and zac did the sum 5x49= because we didn't know what it was and we did the snapper with that sum.

Evaluation:I think I would give myself a 7 out of 10 because I think I hade a good volume. I think How I could get a 10 I can not take as long doing the answer for 5x49.
